Big D Beatdown #4 - Catch the Highlights!
The Big “D” Beatdown #4 just concluded and it was our largest and most intense event yet! We added our new innovative 3-round grappling submission fights in addition to our MMA event. Over the 8 hour event, we had 36 matches. 5 of them were BJJ and 31 were MMA.
The BJJ matches used a unique ruleset; there were 3 rounds with 3 minutes each with no guard pulling until the third round. This kept the action on the feet and forced the athletes to demonstrate some high level wrestling. The BJJ fighter highlight of the evening would have to go to Michael Maderazo who submitted both of his opponents, one with kimura and the other with an armbar.
The 31 MMA matches has continued to evolve and improve since our last event! The young athletes showed more prowess from their feet at this event, tending to favor more striking than ground work. There were still plenty of submissions, but some of the competitors who favored striking over grappling learned how to defend takedowns well and were able to keep the fight standing. Overall, the matches were engaging and exciting throughout the event!
With more competitors than ever before, the room was electric! With DOUBLE the number of matches compared to the last Big “D” Beatdown, our event never had a dull moment.
